If I could add an 11 to the list it would be this: Don't hesitate to ask a professional for advice beforehand. Before you get yourself in over your head -- ask if your expectations are feasible. You are surrounded by free resources. Question asking is free; problem fixing can be costly.
The thought of remodeling an entire home seems daunting and expensive so this post is helpful. My biggest fear is hiring someone that would cut corners and try to beat me because of my lack of knowledge and inexperience. My mother remodeled recently and has to call the contractor back multiple times to fix things they should have got right the first time. These dos and donts will help me in the future because I would like to improve my home to increase the value.
